Thoughts on the Israel-Lebanon War

The Short Ceasefire
Secretary of State Condi Rice spent about three hours in Beirut today. You won't find it in any news report, but it is certain that Israel agreed to stop shelling the city while Rice was there. Now all we need is a ceasefire for a cause greater than protecting her highness' butt.

Precision Bombing
I'm watching NBC Nightly News today. They had a report on Israel bombing Red Cross ambulances. One shot showed an ambulance with a bomb hole directly through the center of the huge red cross on the roof. That is precision bombing, they damn well knew what they were aiming at.

Doing the Numbers

The US is sending $30 million to Lebanon for war relief. There are currently 900,000 Lebanese homeless with more certainly coming. That comes to 33 bucks each. We are sending 100,000 medical kits, so as long as less than ten percent of the victims have medical problem they are covered. We are sending 20,000 blankets, that is one blanket for every family of 45. Only when it comes to compassion does the Bush Administration get budget conscious.
