Silent Spring

I am listening this beautiful spring morning to the lovely song of a mockingbird.
That got me thinking about the people living in Louisiana bayous and how quiet this spring will be as the deadly coating of oil chokes their marshes.

That got me thinking about all the people from Saskatoon to Baton Rouge (and at the other end from Caracas to Buenos Aires) whose springs are brightened by the millions of birds that travel the Mississippi Flyway and how that will end as migratory birds are trapped in the brown ooze that is BP's profit.

Spring has become an incredibly depressing time of year.
